I have no idea how competitive Cornhill are,
what kind of company they are ( other than
being a subsidiary of the Allianz group) but
I do know one thing, dont expect a quick settlement
of any claim.
I was travelling to the local ciname on the
21st January this year when the car behind
me was hit from behind shunting him into me.
I had my three kids in the car so it was a
traummatic experience. We exchanged details
and the driver of the car at fault agreed and
accpted liability. He was also a company car
driver so I was reasonably confident that everything
was above board. I am insured with direct line
and I reported the accident to them and contacted
Cornhill. This is where the fun began.
Cornhill couldnt talk to me about the accident
until they had recieved the completed form
from their client. A couple of weeks passed
and they sent the forms out (after a nagging
call from me)
I returned the form promptly but they still
dragged their heels. Two or three weeks later
they asked for two quotes (which I had already
pre empted and had ready. I posted these off
by return.
Then..... mmmh a bit of a wait. No real answers
to any of the calls, no acceptance of liability.
I contacted direct line who agreed to get me
a solicitor under my legal assistance insurance
( which I am glad I paid for now). They were
as amazed as I was that there was a problem.
Then.... the go ahead to get the repair. I
book the car in and sure enough the repairs
are done. As soon as I get the car back realise
there is still something wrong with the car.
Weeks later.. through the solicitor I get
the go ahead to book the car in for assessment
and they provide a hire car while it is in.
The car was off the road for 10 days and I
got a phone call saying that I MUST collect
the car immediately. I complied and picked
the car up that day.
Then... the solicitor says that the damage(to
the rear suspension) was not a result of the
accident but was due to natural wear and tear!!
More
arguements ensue with Cornhill and the
solicitor. No joy. By this time (5 months
later)
I decide to repair it myself ( COST £240
)and instruct the solicitor to submit a
claim for the inconvenience of the car
having been
off the road for this time.
Cornhill offer no compensation and ask me to
pay for the 10 day hire when the car was
being assessed as I was liable for this cost
as it was not a result of the accident (which
it patently was - but never mind) REJECTED
Cornhill offer a compromise of no compensation
= no bill for car hire.
REJECTED
Cornhill
offer £50 compensation. I accepted.
Why, I dont know, basically I am sick of the
whole thing. I am out of pocket by £190
and didnt have a car for 5 months.
Please please please do not insure your car
with Cornhill as someone else may have to endure
this appalling level of service.
Its the insurance ombudsman next for me!!!
